A lot of people come in with a spyware infection, not a virus infection. If you have antivirus software on your computer and it is updated, there is a good chance that you will not get a virus infection. A rouge spyware infection pretends it is a virus, but does not destroy files or replicate itself. It's just a nice little program that sits that and tells you lies. It says you are infected with all these worms and trojans, when in fact your system is fine. It does change a few keys in the registry that limits you from getting to the internet, printing, checking email, and other everyday functions.
PREVENTION:
To fully prevent from this, you need a real-time spyware scanner program. There are a few out there, but we have gotten great results from one called Malwarebytes. It's a small charge for the real-time program and it's good for a life time.
Where do these come from ?
That's the first question I ask people when they come to me. What was the last website you visitied. What were you doing ? Most people say " Checking my facebook." I have actually witnessed an infection try to come through a laptop. I told the person to click the red X and close out the window. Don't click NO, don't click YES. They do the same thing. Facebook has ads on the right side of the website. One person told me the ad said that 4 friends want to connect with him. Sounds good ? Clicked it, and Whammy. He's bring it to me to remove the infection.
All I can say is if you don't know, don't click. The internet can be like walking down a dark alley. You never know what is going to jump out at you. That's today's lesson, and hopefully one you keep for the future. If you want to prevent these type of infections, give us a call now, or bring it in during normal business hours. Happy Surfing !
